Y2 week no.04 & 5 – Spring

Unit 3 | projecting (30 Jan – 12 Feb)

Thinking about my enquiry and where the project was leading me, I started to look into references about reading and movement that led me to the concept of “corpo-literacy”.
I also looked into Latin American practitioners that use typography as ways to convey feelings. I decided to focus/looked into typography as a graphic language for the project because looking into the Colombian archive I identified typography has one of the biggest tools used.
First mood board
I decided to built a second mood board because I wasn’t feeling inspired by the first one anymore
Thinking about the content (what language I was going to design in, and how I would use type as an element), I wrote a small manifesto about how i would approach my audiences. It became important for me to design content that was also accessible to the people from the region I am working from (Colombia).
I found in the images of how the mountains have burnt inspiration to design a new set of design iterations.
I felt subconscious about using paper and printing as my main medium/substratum when the project is talking about mountains and fires. As such, underneath there are sustainable connotations that cross over the project. With this in mind, I decided to explore the idea of creating new paper from my previous paper prototypes and designs, to use as a new substratum on where to print.
This was not a viable result taking into account the scale and amount of paper I needed to continue the project. I also found that the process required to use large quantities of water, and I found this counterproductive.
Iterations printing over fabric / transferring the design.
